Basketball Game Preview: Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop Thunderbirds vs. Springfield Tigers

The Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop Thunderbirds will take on the Springfield Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart two weeks ago. Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop came out on top against Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart by a score of 61-53. The win was some much needed relief for the Thunderbirds as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Springfield entered their tilt with Red Rock Central on Thursday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They couldn't have asked for a better start to 2025 than the 94-49 blowout they got against the Falcons. The Tigers' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-4. As for Springfield, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1.

Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop came out on top in a nail-biter against Springfield in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, sneaking past 67-65. Does Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop have another victory up their sleeve, or will Springfield turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
