Softball Game Preview: Spooner Rails vs. Ladysmith Lumberjacks

The Spooner Rails will head out on the road to challenge the Ladysmith Lumberjacks at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Spooner's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Ladysmith's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Spooner is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Northwestern just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Rails have suffered against the Tigers since May 2, 2023.

Meanwhile, Ladysmith was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They fell 5-1 to St. Croix Falls.

Spooner's loss dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Ladysmith, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-9.

Spooner took their win against Ladysmith in their previous meeting on Thursday by a conclusive 15-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rails since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
