Indian Rocks Christian is 8-1 against Canterbury since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Eagles will be playing at home against the Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Indian Rocks Christian sitting on three straight wins and Canterbury on four.
Indian Rocks Christian is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They never let Saint Stephen's Episcopal get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
The result came thanks to Ethan Beswetherick's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cooper Ryan, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Maddox, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Canterbury was able to grind out a solid win over Lakeside Christian on Monday, taking the game 8-5.
Brooks Merrill was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Another player making a difference was Colton Tarver, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Canterbury always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lakeside Christian only posted an OBP of .343.
Indian Rocks Christian's victory bumped their record up to 15-10-1. As for Canterbury, their win bumped their record up to 11-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Indian Rocks Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Canterbury struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Indian Rocks Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Canterbury in their previous meeting two weeks ago, sneaking past 3-1. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Crusaders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
