Basketball Game Preview: Fruita Monument Wildcats vs. Montrose Red Hawks

Fruita Monument and Montrose are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but not for long. The Fruita Monument Wildcats will be playing at home against the Montrose Red Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fruita Monument is coming into the match hot, having won their last eight games.

Last Friday, Fruita Monument didn't have too much trouble with Palisade as they won 51-33. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 106th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Fruita Monument relied on the efforts of Daniel Thomason, who went 7-for-9 on his way to 17 points along with five assists and five rebounds, and Jhett Wells, who went 5-for-8 en route to 12 points and five assists. Thomason is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 47% in the last 27 games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Josh Huskey, who posted eight points.

Meanwhile, Montrose earned a 37-26 victory over Durango on Wednesday.

Montrose is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which somehow still isn't as good as their 17-5 record this season. As for Fruita Monument, they pushed their record up to 17-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Fruita Monument skirted past Montrose 47-45 in their previous matchup back in January. Will Fruita Monument repeat their success, or does Montrose have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
