Powell County hasn't had much luck against Wolfe County recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Pirates will be playing at home against the Wolves at 6:00 p.m. Powell County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.7 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Powell County got the win against Buckhorn by a conclusive 15-8. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Kylie Shick made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Shick was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Marti Kirk was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Slone, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Powell County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .528. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Wolfe County came up short against Madison Southern on Friday and fell 8-5. That's two games in a row now that the Wolves have lost by exactly three runs.
Wolfe County saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kenzie Miller, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Abby Stone was another, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Powell County's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Wolfe County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-6.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Powell County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. However, it's not like Wolfe County struggles in that department as they've averaged .339. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
