Recap: Niwot Cougars vs. Severance Silver Knights
The Niwot Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 47-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of Severance. Niwot has struggled against Severance recently, as their game on Thursday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Niwot lost, one person who can't be blamed is Rose Pacheco. Despite the final result, she scored 13 points along with four blocks and three steals. Pacheco scored a full 36.1% of Niwot's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Ella Zechman was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Severance can attribute much of their success to Attley Helzer, who scored 15 points along with three steals. Those three steals set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Alana Hayes, who scored three points along with 13 rebounds and four steals.
Niwot's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-5. As for Severance, their victory bumped their record up to 1-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Niwot will challenge Longmont at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Longmont's defense has only allowed 28 points per game this season, so Niwot's offense will have their work cut out for Niwot. As for Severance, they will head out on the road to face off against Forge Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Forge Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 32 on Tuesday.
