Softball Recap: Morgan Takes a Loss

Morgan entered their matchup against Grantsville on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Trojans fell just short of the Cowboys by a score of 7-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cowboys this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-7 back in March.

Eva Birkeland spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Lexi Hardman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 5-for-5. She has been hot, having posted three or more hits the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Gwen Rickard, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Morgan's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Grantsville, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Morgan will face off against Ogden at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Grantsville, they will challenge Uintah at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
