Baseball Recap: Dougherty Valley Takes a Loss

Dougherty Valley extended their losing streak to eight on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 2-21 in the process. They came up short against the De La Salle Spartans, falling 14-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 22-0 last Saturday.

As for De La Salle, the win was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 21-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games.

For De La Salle's part, Cooper Barnes looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Barnes has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tyler Spangler, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Jacob Gray, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

Dougherty Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for De La Salle, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Foothill at 4:00 p.m. The Falcons' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
