Recap: Belleview Christian Bruins vs. Front Range Baptist Falcons
The Belleview Christian Bruins had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They came out on top against Front Range Baptist by a score of 67-55. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Belleview Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Garrett Owen led the charge by scoring 18 points along with four steals and two blocks. Owen is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Norman, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Defeat or not, Front Range Baptist got some senior leadership from Stephen Manthei and Alex Prelog. Manthei scored 16 points, while Prelog. scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Manthei has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Mark Sutton, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Front Range Baptist smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Belleview Christian only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
Belleview Christian pushed their record up to 11-1 with that win, which was their 17th straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.4 points per game. As for Front Range Baptist, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Belleview Christian will challenge Dawson School at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Allowing an average of 51.8 points per game, Dawson School has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this contest. As for Front Range Baptist, they will head out on the road to face off against Lone Star at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lone Star will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 309th, while Front Range Baptist is ranked 138th).
