It may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Mentor ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They skirted past the Hoover Vikings 4-2. The victory was familiar territory for the Cardinals, who have now won four games in a row.

Mentor got a great performance from Jacob Gunvelson as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Gunvelson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tyson Cendrowski, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Vanhuss, who went 2-for-5 with two runs.

Mentor pushed their record up to 20-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Hoover, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-12 record this season.

Mentor and Hoover are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Cardinals will square off against St. Edward at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Mentor 3.2, the Eagles 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Hoover, they will challenge Normandy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
