Softball Recap: Wayne Hills Wins Going Away Against West Milford

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Passaic Valley, Wayne Hills was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They blew past the West Milford Highlanders 12-6. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Patriots' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Isabella Mastroeni was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carlee Mirko, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since April 2nd. Another player making a difference was Ava Mastroeni, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Wayne Hills' win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 3-11. As for West Milford, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wayne Hills will host Kennedy at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. As for West Milford, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Passaic County Tech at 4:00 p.m.
