Baseball Recap: Lake Country Lutheran Turns Things Around After Road Loss

Lake Country Lutheran's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Lakeside Lutheran on Tuesday. The Lightning were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the University School of Milwaukee Wildcats. Considering the Lightning have won nine games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Jack Poellot made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Braden Theis was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Preston Manthei, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Lake Country Lutheran is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for University School of Milwaukee, their loss dropped their record down to 12-7.

Lake Country Lutheran will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wildcats: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
