Softball Preview: Nixon-Smiley Mustangs vs. Yoakum Bulldogs
Nixon-Smiley is 0-7 against Yoakum since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs are on the road again to play the Yoakum Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Nixon-Smiley knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy run totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully Yoakum likes a good challenge.
Last Tuesday, Nixon-Smiley got the win against Luling by a conclusive 21-9.
The team relied heavily on Hailee Houseston, who fired off three triples, six RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaelynn Mendiola, who went 3-for-5 with a home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Meanwhile, Yoakum sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over Tidehaven on Tuesday.
Nixon-Smiley has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 10-15 record this season. As for Yoakum, their win bumped their record up to 20-10-1.
