Softball Game Preview: Gateway Panthers vs. Freedom Patriots

Gateway hasn't had much luck against Freedom recently, but that could start to change on Friday. Gateway will face off against Freedom at 6:00 p.m. Freedom took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Gateway, who comes in off a win.

Gateway made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Liberty, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Gateway put the hurt on Liberty with a sharp 24-8 victory on March 11th. The Panthers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, Freedom didn't have quite enough to beat Legacy Charter on Thursday and fell 3-2. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Freedom saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaylin Braasch, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave Braasch a new career-high. Ja'Lynn Merriex also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Gateway's win bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Freedom, their loss dropped their record down to 1-12.

Gateway suffered a grim 18-3 defeat to Freedom in their previous meeting back in February of 2018. Can Gateway avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
