Basketball Game Preview: Hampton-Dumont/CAL vs. Algona Bulldogs

Hampton-Dumont/CAL is 1-6 against Algona since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. Hampton-Dumont/CAL will welcome the Algona Bulldogs at 7:45 p.m. Hampton-Dumont/CAL has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Hampton-Dumont/CAL is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 67-65 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden on Tuesday. The win was all the more spectacular given Hampton-Dumont/CAL's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 261st, while Iowa Falls-Alden is ranked 78th).

Meanwhile, Algona came into Tuesday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They snuck past Clarion-Goldfield/DOWS with a 56-52 victory on Tuesday.

Algona's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-4. As for Hampton-Dumont/CAL, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.

Hampton-Dumont/CAL and Algona were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, but Hampton-Dumont/CAL came up empty-handed after a 62-61 loss. Can Hampton-Dumont/CAL avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
