Baseball Game Preview: Clay Blue Devils vs. Westside Wolverines

The Clay Blue Devils will take on the Westside Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Clay will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Clay's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Keystone Heights with a sharp 11-0 victory. The Blue Devils not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 6th (when they won 13-0).

Rylan McMahan made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on JC Rosette, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Tyler Gunsaulus, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Westside had no trouble coming through when it counted. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Riverside 10-9. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Wolverines as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Zion Asberry was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Westside's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 0-16 when he doesn't).

Clay's win bumped their record up to 12-13. As for Westside, their victory bumped their record up to 2-17.
