Baseball Game Preview: Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy Ospreys vs. Grace Christian Warriors

The Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy Ospreys will face off against the Grace Christian Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 25 runs last Tuesday, they were much more limited against Franklin County on Friday. They lost 11-1 to the Eagles. The match marked the Ospreys' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brodie Edwards, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Meanwhile, Grace Christian didn't have quite enough to beat Regents last Thursday and fell 5-4. The loss was the Warriors' first of the season.

Ethan Wright was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Wright was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Having lost for the first time this season, Grace Christian fell to 4-1. As for Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy, their loss ended a 12-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-4.

Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy took their victory against Grace Christian when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 9-0 score. Do the Ospreys have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
