Football Preview: Great Mills Hornets vs. Lackey Chargers
Great Mills has been away from home for two games now, but on Thursday they'll finally make their return. They will host the Lackey Chargers at 6:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Great Mills is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 42-0 win over Chopticon. The Hornets pushed the score to 24-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Braves had little chance of recovering from.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Great Mills to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kian Bush, who threw for 251 yards and three touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes. Demariae Thomas was Bush's top target, picking up 140 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 31 yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Great Mills' defense and their seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Damari Riley and Dayquon Mason, who racked up five sacks between them. Mason also sacked two sacks, which is notable because Great Mills is 2-1 when he posts at least two sacks, but 2-3 otherwise. Another thorn in Chopticon's side was Brayden Brashear, who picked up a sack and made ten total tackles (4.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, after only 11 points in their last contest, Lackey made sure to put some points up on the board against La Plata on Friday. Lackey simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat La Plata 42-7. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by 35 points or more this season.
The victory got Great Mills back to even at 4-4. As for Lackey, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.
