Baseball Recap: Claymont Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Garaway, Claymont was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Tuslaw, sneaking past 5-4. This was payback for Claymont, who suffered a 14-4 loss the last time these two teams met.

Nate Downing spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up nine Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Claymont is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-12 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Connor Hillyer, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Tyson Harig was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.

With the victory, Claymont broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-14. As for Tuslaw, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-8.

Coming up, Claymont will be playing at home against Ridgewood at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Tuslaw, they will take on Triway at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Titans will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something the Mustangs surely won't give up without a fight.
