Preview: Ray Bearcats vs. The Gregory School Hawks
The Ray Bearcats will be playing at home against The Gregory School Hawks at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ray comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 17 points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Ray suffered their biggest loss since December 15, 2023 on Wednesday. They suffered a rough 38-12 defeat at the hands of Desert Christian. Ray was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 26-4.
Sanaa McGee was Ray's leading scorer, having posted five points. McGee also led the team in rebounds with eight.
Makayla Barajas took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.
Meanwhile, The Gregory School had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against San Simon by a score of 32-21 on Saturday. The win was just what The Gregory School needed coming off of a 60-31 defeat in their prior match.
The Gregory School's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rose Pisetsky led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Pisetsky pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Zena Smith, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
Ray has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. As for The Gregory School, their win bumped their record up to 5-11.
Ray didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against The Gregory School in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 36-32 win. Does Ray have another victory up their sleeve, or will The Gregory School turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
