Softball Recap: Banning Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

Banning's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 14-5 margin over the Nuview Bridge Knights. The high-scoring effort was just what the Broncos needed considering they were shutout in their previous contest.

Ella Leivas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off one hit. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her eight plate appearances.

In other batting news, Banning let Anyssa Aqleh and Lilly Anderez run wild. Aqleh went 3-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one stolen base, while Anderez scored three runs while getting on base in five of her nine plate appearances. Nicelle Soriano was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of her eight plate appearances.

Banning pushed their record up to 1-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Nuview Bridge, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Banning will square off against Norte Vista at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Nuview Bridge, they will challenge Indian Springs at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
