Recap: Hinkley Thunderbirds vs. Gateway Olympians
This season hasn't been kind to the Hinkley Thunderbirds, who are still winless after their sixth game. They were dealt a 65-33 defeat at the hands of Gateway on Saturday. Hinkley lost against Gateway in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 60-16 score last time.
It was another big night for Hayden Von Boeckman, who scored 17 points along with three steals for Gateway. The match was Von Boeckman's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Colt Wenzel, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Hinkley's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Gateway, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hinkley will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Denver North at 7:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Denver North presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Hinkley in Colorado (Denver North is ranked 140th, while Hinkley is ranked 318th). As for Gateway, they will head out on the road to face off against Bear Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
