Softball Recap: Ray Takes a Loss

Ray was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They fell 15-11 to the Miami Vandals. The Bearcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vandals apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2016.

Kaylee Servant and Krishel Sims did some serious damage despite the final result: Servant scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Sims scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Those two runs gave Sims a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dominique Martinez, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.

Even though they lost, Ray hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in four consecutive matches.

Ray's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Miami, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-5.

Coming up, Ray will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Coolidge at 3:45 p.m. Ray's pitchers better be ready for this one: Coolidge has averaged an impressive 10.2 runs per game this season. As for Miami, they will head out to face off against St. John Paul II Catholic at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Miami is facing St. John Paul II Catholic at the right time seeing as St. John Paul II Catholic is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
