After a string of ten wins, Independence's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They came up short against the South Pontotoc Cougars, falling 14-2. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Wildcats couldn't push the score so high this time.

Independence saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaleb Kitchen, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Kitchen has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Independence's defeat dropped their record down to 14-8. As for South Pontotoc, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-10 record this season.

Independence will face off against White Station at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for South Pontotoc, they will square off against Calhoun City at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
