Baseball Game Preview: Holy Redeemer Royals vs. Carbondale Area Chargers

The Holy Redeemer Royals will square off against the Carbondale Area Chargers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Carbondale Area took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Holy Redeemer, who comes in off a win.

On Thursday, Holy Redeemer made easy work of Western Wayne and carried off a 12-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Royals.

Cody Quaglia made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Quaglia was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Quaglia wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sam Shovlin, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Those two hits gave Shovlin a new career-high. Noah Hummel was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Carbondale Area was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Lakeland. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Chargers have suffered since April 17, 2024.

Holy Redeemer's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Carbondale Area, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

Holy Redeemer was able to grind out a solid victory over Carbondale Area when the teams last played back in March of 2024, winning 5-2. Will Holy Redeemer repeat their success, or does Carbondale Area has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
