Basketball Recap: Hoehne Comes Up Short

Hoehne kicked off their season on the road on Thursday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell just short of the Raton Tigers by a score of 49-47. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.

Loss or not, Hoehne got some senior leadership from Alan Meraz and Matteo Moltrer. Meraz posted 11 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals, while Moltrer put up 13 points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Magninat, who had eight points along with seven boards and four steals.

Leading Raton to victory were Chance Walton and Aiden Riley. Walton scored eight points in addition to 17 rebounds and eight blocks, while Riley shot 43% from the field to rack up 23 points and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Riley a new career-high in boards (four). Nathan Ley was another key player, putting up seven points.

Raton now has a winning record of 2-1.

Hoehne didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 72-44 victory against FWC Academy on the 5th. As for Raton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 44-40 win against Primero on the 5th.
