Basketball Recap: Jordan Valles' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Jefferson over Canutillo

Jefferson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They fell 53-44 to the Canutillo Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Silver Foxes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1177th, while the Eagles are ranked 291st).

Jefferson lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jordan Valles, who posted nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of Danyiel Sebastian Villa, who put up 12 points.

Canutillo's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jovanni Ortiz, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards. That's the most rebounds Ortiz has posted since back in December of 2024. Donovan Mozer was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Jefferson's loss dropped their record down to 7-22. As for Canutillo, they pushed their record up to 20-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Jefferson has already played their next contest, a 47-24 defeat against Andress on the 4th. As for Canutillo, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 61-53 win against El Paso on the 4th.
