Softball Game Preview: Halifax Academy Vikings vs. Southampton Academy Raiders

The Halifax Academy Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Southampton Academy Raiders at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Halifax Academy took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Pungo Christian Academy 18-3. That looming 18-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Vikings yet this season.

Halifax Academy got a massive performance out of Maddy Bethel, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI and two runs. Those four RBI gave Bethel a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Barlow, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Halifax Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Southampton Academy got the win against Windsor on Friday by a conclusive 10-2. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by eight runs or more this season.

Dutchess Rose spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Sara Hodges was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Kelsey Braun, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Southampton Academy's record is now 3-4-1. As for Halifax Academy, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-7-1 record.
