Softball Game Preview: West Shamokin Wolves vs. Purchase Line Red Dragons

For the second straight game, West Shamokin will face off against Purchase Line. The Wolves will take on the Red Dragons at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. West Shamokin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.

West Shamokin took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They blew past Purchase Line 11-4. The high-scoring effort was just what the Wolves needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Leah Mondi and Avery Elkin made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Mondi struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Elkin tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. With that strong performance, Mondi is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. At the plate, Mondi scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Elkin scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madi Keirn, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Maya McIlwian, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

West Shamokin's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Purchase Line, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.
