The Whitesburg Christian Academy Warriors will head out on the road to take on the Elkmont Red Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
If Whitesburg Christian Academy beats Elkmont with nine runs on Thursday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. Whitesburg Christian Academy came out on top against Mae Jemison by a score of 9-5 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Warriors.
Allie McGill was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. McGill was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two triples, and three runs.
In other batting news, Brinkley Lang was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while going 3-for-4. Ella Hill was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and one double.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Elkmont made sure to put some runs up on the board against Falkville on Monday. Elkmont blew past Falkville 20-10. Considering the Red Devils have won three contests by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Elkmont got a massive performance out of Savannah Williams, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those runs marked the first that Williams scored this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Harwell, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Elkmont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Whitesburg Christian Academy's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Elkmont, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-4.
Whitesburg Christian Academy suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Elkmont when the teams last played back in February of 2018. Can Whitesburg Christian Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
