Basketball Recap: Tonasket Comes Up Short

Tonasket's game on Thursday was all tied up 24-24 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 64-47 bruising from the Chelan Mountain Goats. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while the Mountain Goats are ranked 34th).

Despite the loss, Tonasket still got an impressive performance from Tanner Tompkins, who went 10 for 16 on his way to 25 points along with five rebounds and three blocks. That was a full 53.2% of Tonasket's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Spangler, who had eight points and five assists.

This is the second loss in a row for Tonasket and nudges their season record down to 10-7. As for Chelan, their victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tonasket will head out to square off against Bridgeport at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Tonasket is facing Bridgeport at the right time seeing as Bridgeport is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Chelan, they will head out on the road to challenge Royal at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday. Royal will roll in looking for their 14th straight win, something Chelan surely won't give up without a fight.
