Basketball Recap: Newman Grove/St. Edward Takes a Loss

Newman Grove/St. Edward was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 49-24 to the Chambers/Wheeler Central Renegades. The match marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Newman Grove/St. Edward lost, don't look at Mason Steensnes. Despite the final result, he posted seven points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Steensnes a new career-high in boards. Ryan Cumming was another key player, putting up three points.

Chambers/Wheeler Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Daniel Kluver led the charge by on his way to 15 points and eight rebounds. Chambers/Wheeler Central is 2-1 when Kluver posts eight or more boards, but 9-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Jesse, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds.

Newman Grove/St. Edward's loss dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Chambers/Wheeler Central, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-12.

Newman Grove/St. Edward didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 46-28 defeat against Arcadia/Loup City on the 24th. As for Chambers/Wheeler Central, they will head out to face off against Central Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Central Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55 points per game this season.
