Basketball Game Preview: Houlton Shiretowners vs. Old Town Coyotes

The Houlton Shiretowners will venture away from home to take on the Old Town Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Houlton has struggled recently with nine losses in a row, while Old Town will arrive with four straight wins.

Houlton is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They were beaten by Ellsworth 66-32 last Monday. While losing is never fun, the Shiretowners can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Eagles are ranked 21st).

Meanwhile, Old Town posted their biggest victory since February 16, 2024 on Monday. They blew past Mount Desert Island 46-24.

Old Town now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Houlton, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Houlton might still be hurting after the 56-31 loss they got from Old Town in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Houlton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
