Basketball Recap: Hatch Valley Bears vs. Ruidoso Warriors
The Hatch Valley Bears came into Tuesday's matchup having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 37-34 victory over Ruidoso on Tuesday. The win was just what Hatch Valley needed coming off of a 50-24 defeat in their prior match.
Hatch Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Caydence Roberts, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 16 rebounds. Miah Martinez was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Hatch Valley's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-11. As for Ruidoso, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.
Hatch Valley won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Lobos at 5:30 p.m. on January 31st. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in New Mexico (Chaparral is ranked 109th, while the Bears are ranked 130th). As for Ruidoso, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Colts at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. New Mexico Military Institute has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
