The Morehead Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the McMichael Phoenix at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Morehead has given up an average of 7.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Rockingham County hit Morehead with a six-run third inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Panthers lost 11-1 to the Cougars. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost five in a row.
Morehead saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooklynn Wray, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, McMichael entered their contest against Rockingham County on Wednesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Phoenix fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 2-1.
Lindsay Redmon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kora Ingle made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played.
McMichael's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 15-3. As for Morehead, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Morehead hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .350. However, it's not like McMichael struggles in that department as they've averaged .409. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
