Softball Game Preview: Northern Guilford Nighthawks vs. Grimsley Whirlies

Northern Guilford has gone a perfect 7-0 against Grimsley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. Northern Guilford will head out to face off against Grimsley at 6:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Northern Guilford is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Western Guilford an 18-0 shutout on Friday. The Nighthawks haven't had any issues with the Hornets recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Dakotah Wilkins was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Northern Guilford got a big performance out of Paige Bassett, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Bassett a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Taylor Claassen, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Northern Guilford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .632. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Western Guilford only posted a batting average of .000.

Meanwhile, Grimsley hadn't done well against Page recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Grimsley was the clear victor by a 17-2 margin over Page. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Whirlies' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Northern Guilford's record now sits at 9-3. As for Grimsley, their record now sits at 4-5.
