Basketball Preview: Potomac Falls Panthers vs. Stone Bridge Bulldogs

Potomac Falls and the Bulldogs are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2020, but not for long. The Potomac Falls Panthers will stay at home for another game and welcome the Stone Bridge Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on February 5th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard on Monday.

Last Friday, Potomac Falls beat the Falcons 61-49. Given Potomac Falls' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Falcons are ranked 210th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

David Marshall was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Johnny Opiola was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with four steals and two blocks.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Stone Bridge's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 69-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of Independence. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Wednesday (58), Stone Bridge still had to take the loss.

Potomac Falls' victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-0. As for Stone Bridge, their loss dropped their record down to 12-6.

Potomac Falls came up short against the Bulldogs in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 57-52. Can Potomac Falls avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
