Softball Recap: Monday's Win Is Sunset's Eighth in Last Nine Outings

Sunset proved they can win big on Friday (they won by six) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Southridge Skyhawks 2-1. That's more bragging rights for the Apollos, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Sydney Arnold spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sunset saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Keana Cooper, who went 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Sunset has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season. As for Southridge, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sunset will venture away from home to square off against Jesuit at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Apollos 2.8, the Crusaders 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Southridge, they will head out to take on Aloha at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Skyhawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
