Baseball Recap: Mt. Healthy Takes a Loss

Mt. Healthy had lost four straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 1-9 to make it five. They came up short against the Winton Woods Warriors, falling 14-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 back in April.

As for Winton Woods, their record is now 3-19. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Winton Woods' part, Kenneth 'Kenny' Bailey III was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Bailey III has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Angel De La Cruz was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted over his last nine contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Aker, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Mt. Healthy will head out to square off against Harrison at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The game will give the Fighting Owls their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Winton Woods, they are taking a road trip to challenge Loveland at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Warriors' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
