Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Johnny Rogers and Rico Blassingame Lead Tolleson to Victory

Tolleson hadn't done well against Valley Vista recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Tolleson Wolverines snuck past the Valley Vista Monsoon with a 59-54 victory. This was a revenge game for the Wolverines: when they faced off against the Monsoon two weeks ago, they had to take a 64-55 defeat.

Tolleson was led to victory by Rico Blassingame and Johnny Rogers. Blassingame dropped a double-double with 25 points and ten rebounds, while Rogers went 7-for-13 en route to 17 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. Those 17 points gave Rogers a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tafuma Abston, who posted six points and six boards.

Tolleson's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 11-13. As for Valley Vista, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 4-20 record this season.

Tolleson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 42-37 loss against West Point on the 12th. As for Valley Vista, they have also already played their next match, a 55-41 defeat against Shadow Ridge on the 12th.
