Baseball Recap: Desert Edge Comes Up Short

Desert Edge had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 4-7 to make it four. They came up short against the Verrado Vipers, falling 14-1. The Scorpions were not able to make up for their defeat to the Vipers from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Desert Edge saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Justice Scott, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double. Rene Ruiz also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Verrado, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

On Verrado's side, Colton Zacher was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Zacher has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Aaron Gutierrez and Eli Bebleh did most of the damage at the plate: Gutierrez went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one run, while Bebleh went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most hits Gutierrez has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bode Acton, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Desert Edge has already played their next matchup, a 7-5 loss against Youngker on the 11th. As for Verrado, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, an 8-5 victory against Buckeye on the 12th.
