Basketball Recap: Mason Lazzar Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Valley View + How To Watch

A well-balanced attack led Yucaipa over Valley View in every quarter on their way to victory on Thursday. The Thunderbirds took down the Eagles 63-45. For the Thunderbirds, this counts as revenge for the 86-65 victory the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2023.

Yucaipa's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mason Lazzar, who shot 55% from the field en route to 13 points and six assists. The dominant performance also gave Lazzar a new career-high in rebounds (four). Another player making a difference was Levi Vaughan, who went 5-for-9 on his way to 11 points.

When it comes to explaining why Valley View lost, don't look at Davion Moore. Despite the final result, he shot 67% from the field to rack up 15 points and five boards. Moore has also been stellar as far as field goal percentage is concerned: he's posted one of at least 55% every time he's hit the court this season. Mitchell Hall was another key player, going 5-for-8 en route to 11 points.

Yucaipa has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 57.5 points this season. As for Valley View, their loss was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-2.

Yucaipa has already played their next contest (against La Quinta), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Valley View, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Silverado at 5:00 p.m. on December 2.
