Football Recap: Central Panthers vs. Eagle Point Eagles

Suggested Video

Central took care of business in their home opener on Friday (and then some). They blew past the Eagle Point Eagles, posting a 42-0 victory at home. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Panthers also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2022.

Central found their leader in underclassman JT Girod, who threw for 311 yards and four touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes, and also rushed for 33 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Kao Phantern, who rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries.

Central wouldn't let Eagle Point keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force three fumbles. It was truly a group effort as Mason Vela, Levi Vantil, and Asa Pritchard-Moa picked up one apiece. Vela didn't just play on offense: he also picked up a sack, forced a fumble, and made four total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central will face off against Beaverton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Eagle Point, they will venture away from home to square off against Crater at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Eagle Point is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
