Recap: Weldon Chargers vs. Northwest Halifax Vikings
The Weldon Chargers were the 41-36 winner over the Northwest Halifax Vikings when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Weldon was the victim of a tough 55-35 loss at the hands of Northwest Halifax on Tuesday. Weldon has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Several Chargers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Shaelyn Johnson, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Johnson is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Kamya Coles, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Camaya Adkins was her usual excellent self, scoring 30 points for Northwest Halifax. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Adkins has scored at least a third of Northwest Halifax's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aleigha Allen, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds.
Weldon's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Northwest Halifax, their win bumped their record up to 10-3.
Weldon won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Northampton County at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. Averaging 52.4 so far this season, Northampton County's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Weldon better be ready for a challenge. As for Northwest Halifax, they will be playing at home against Warren County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Warren County is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
