Basketball Recap: Southwestern Heights Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Southwestern Heights and Hoisington squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Southwestern Heights had to settle for second. They lost 61-37 to the Hoisington Cardinals. The game marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Isaac Amerin, who posted seven points. Edwin Puentes was another key player, shooting 71% from the field en route to 13 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Mason Martin was his usual excellent self, going 7-for-16 to rack up 20 points and three steals for Hoisington. Martin's big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brier Thompson, who earned 12 points.

Southwestern Heights has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-10 record this season. Hoisington is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season.

Southwestern Heights does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hoisington, they will head out to take on Lakin at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Lakin's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 14 games.
