Football Recap: Jered Smith Key Part of Team Effort in Dons Win

Verdugo Hills's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They managed a 12-8 win over the Chavez Eagles. The Dons have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Eagles, too.

Verdugo Hills' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jered Smith, who rushed for 54 yards and two TDs on only six carries, and also threw for 153 yards on 13 of 28 attempts. Those two rushing touchdowns gave Smith a new career-high. Aiden Mejia was another key rusher, gaining 131 total yards.

Verdugo Hills' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Chavez, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.
