Basketball Game Preview: Start Spartans vs. Genoa Area Comets

The Start Spartans will take on the Genoa Area Comets in a holiday battle at at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Start comes in on eight and Genoa Area on six.

Start's usually-dominant defense will be looking to make up for Monday's struggle, when Lima Senior offense got past them. Start took down Lima Senior 73-57 on Monday. While Start didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Genoa Area). Everything went their way against Rossford on Tuesday as Genoa Area made off with a 65-40 win. The Comets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Start's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.7 points per game. As for Genoa Area, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.

Everything went Start's way against Genoa Area in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, as Start made off with a 62-40 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Start since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
