Basketball Recap: Kellis Comes Up Short

Kellis lost against Sunrise Mountain back in February and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Kellis Cougars were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 56-55 to the Sunrise Mountain Mustangs.

Despite the loss, Kellis had strong showings from Jordan Parrish, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 boards, and Zion Woods, who went 9 of 22 on his way to 24 points and six rebounds. Parrish is becoming a predictor of Kellis' success: when he posts at least eight boards the team is 2-1 (and 1-4 when he doesn't).

Even though they lost, Kellis smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in seven consecutive games.

Caden Hammond was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 12 boards for Sunrise Mountain. The contest was Hammond's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Henry Nally, who posted 11 points.

Kellis' defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Sunrise Mountain, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 3-5.

Kellis wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, an 86-59 win against Independence on the 12th. As for Sunrise Mountain, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-60 loss against Liberty on the 13th.
