Preview: Spackenkill Spartans vs. Millbrook Blazers
The Spackenkill Spartans will head out on the road to take on the Millbrook Blazers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Spackenkill is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Millbrook in New York (Spackenkill is ranked 106th, while Millbrook is ranked 259th).
Spackenkill has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They lost to Ellenville at home by a decisive 70-51 margin on Monday.
Meanwhile, Millbrook had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.5 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. Everything went their way against Pine Plains as Millbrook made off with a 72-46 win. Millbrook has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 22 points or more this season.
Owen Iannucci was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 11 rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last eight games he's played. Alex LaCasse was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds and six assists.
Spackenkill's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-2. As for Millbrook, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.
Everything came up roses for Spackenkill against Millbrook in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 67-32 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Spackenkill since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
