Basketball Recap: North Fort Myers Drops Season-High Score on Riverdale

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask North Fort Myers). They breezed by the Riverdale Raiders to the tune of 62-22 on Tuesday. The Red Knights have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Bianca Iten continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 12 points along with five rebounds and five steals. She has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 15 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith MacKay, who went 7 of 12 on her way to 15 points and four steals.

North Fort Myers smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 27 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Riverdale's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bonner Destiny, who posted five points and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Raniyah Dubose, who put up 12 points.

North Fort Myers pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 21.9 points per game. As for Riverdale, they are on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

North Fort Myers will venture away from home to challenge Southwest Florida Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. North Fort Myers' defense has only allowed 27.4 points per game this season, so Southwest Florida Christian's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Riverdale, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Ida Baker at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd.
